I’ve spent most of my life imagining journeys before I ever took them. Dreaming about the best travel moments or jumping into the unplanned! Drawing routes in my head and dreaming of places I hadn’t yet thought of. I’ve daydreamed about roads, adventures, and quests. Small ones. Day-long ones… Or just tasting something different. I’ve daydreamed about crossing to another continent. Longer-than-a-year quest, moving through several countries without really knowing where the end would be. What no one tells you is that the world doesn’t reward preparation the way we expect.
And somewhere along the way, I started to realize something strange.
Some of the best moments of my life, the ones that still feel heavy in the chest when I think about them, were unplanned accidents. They weren’t planned. They weren’t researched. They weren’t supposed to happen at all.

I realized I ate the best food of my life in places I never saved on an app. They were found in markets, on crowded street corners, or recommended by a local after extending my stay two or three extra rounds at a neighborhood pub. Long enough to hear about his favorite dish. Long enough to learn how to say more than “cheers” in another language. From kitchens that didn’t speak my language but somehow understood hunger perfectly.
And then there are the people. Some of the most magnificent humans I’ve ever met.
Some I crossed paths with only once or twice. Some I know I’ll carry with me for a lifetime. Some, I hope the road brings back again someday. They’re the ones who quietly shifted the direction of my life. A few of them I’m lucky enough to call friends. And the strange thing is — they all share something in common. They showed up in moments where I wasn’t supposed to be at all. In places I had no reason to be, doing things I hadn’t planned, saying yes without fully understanding the consequences or where it might lead.
"Some of our best travel moments are actually places we didn't know they existed - or unplanned experiences"

It was never the plan.
It was the butterfly effect of saying yes.
Of opening one more door.
Of following unpredictable threads just a little longer.
That’s the paradox, wishing to plan something you couldn’t, because it’s built on a chain of unplanned decisions & unexpected events.
The beauty of this is to accept that there are things you just can’t plan… But you can flow.
This paradox used to drive me crazy — in a good way. Because yes, I still believe in a good plan. But what I’ve learned is this: the plan is often just the beginning. A starting point. A way to step outside — not a script to obey.

The real substance of the best travel moments lives elsewhere. In the mess. In the mistakes. In the willingness to follow threads that don’t make sense yet.
Living inside that contradiction has given the last five years of my life real meaning. Accepting that my quest is never meant to be finished. Accepting that the more I walk this world, the more I realize how much I don’t know — and how much more there is to discover.
New stories. Good friends. Favorite meals. Unforgettable nights. The best conversations ever.
The sunsets that stay with you forever. New ways of doing things or even your new favorite places on earth…
(Possibilities that paradoxically, you didn’t know they existed before)
Sometimes they arrive without a plan.
Sometimes, only after your plan has already failed.
These thoughts were born somewhere between the Galápagos, Inishbofin, Egirdir, Himare & Bihac — (Places I wasn’t supposed to be)
places that taught me the same lesson in very different ways: the world gives its best moments to those willing to lose control of the script…

Thanks for reading,
If any part of this made you pause, reflect, or feel that quiet itch to move, to explore, to question your own path —
Take it as a small signal. Not pressure. Not a command. Just a nudge.
Your quest doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It doesn’t have to be loud, extreme, or perfectly planned.
It just has to feel true to you.
And if this motivated you even a little, maybe that’s enough to take the next step — whatever that means for you.
Peace
